Making Change to Your Benefits
When big moments happen—such as getting married, welcoming a child, or experiencing a change in coverage—you may be eligible to adjust your Sysco benefits.
You can make changes to your benefits when you experience a QLE if the changes you make are caused by and consistent with the change in status. Documentation may be required.
Most updates must be made within 31 or 60 days of your qualifying life event (QLE), depending on the event. See the table below.
‍

You have 31 days to make the following QLEs*:
Marriage or start of a domestic partnership
Birth, adoption, or placement for adoption
Change from part-time to full-time employment with Sysco** (non-benefits eligible to benefits eligible)
Gain of dependent status
Residence change that effects eligibility to add or update coverage
Loss of Medicare
Loss of eligibility for Medicaid/CHIP***
You have 60 days to make the following QLEs*:
Divorce, legal separation, or end of a domestic partnership
Death of spouse, domestic partner, or dependent
Loss of dependent status
Dependent gains coverage
Residence change that affects eligibility to remove coverage
Gain of Medicare
Gain of eligibility for Medicaid/CHIP***
* When a covered dependents turn 26, colleagues do not need to take any action to terminate coverage. Coverage is provdied until the the last day of the month the covered dependent turns 26.
** Coverage for Sysco-sponsored benefits is effective on the first day of the month coincident with, or following, the part-time to full- time employment status change effective date, if you already satisfied a 60-day period of active employment. If you have not already satisfied a 60-day period of active employment period on the part-time to full-time employment status change effective date, there is a waiting period based on your original hire date to become eligible for Sysco-sponsored benefits on the first day of the month following or coincident with a 60-day waiting period.
*** If you lose or gain coverage for a state premium assistance program under Medicare or Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), you have 60 days from the date of the eligibility change to request enrollment or cancellation of your benefits.

Verify Dependents and
Submit Required Documentation
It is your responsibility to confirm and verify that an individual meets the definition of a dependent and provide any and all proper documentation for dependents when requested. Register your QLE in the online Sysco Benefits Center or by calling 1-800-55-SYSCO (1-800-557-9726).
You have 31 or 60 days from the date of the life event to register the QLE and submit the required documentation. Contact the Sysco Benefits Center for documentation requirements; a Social Security number is not required documentation for a birth QLE.
New Hires and Newly Eligible Colleagues
New hires and newly eligible colleagues have 31 days from the date of hire/eligibility to elect your benefits. If you don’t make your elections within the initial 31-day period of eligibility, you’ll have to wait until Annual Benefits Enrollment unless you have a QLE. Benefits are effective on the first of the month on or after 31 days of employment or becoming newly eligible.
You’ll receive details about your enrollment deadline and how to enroll in the mail.
