Protection Benefits

Additional Coverage for Expenses Due to an Illness or Injury
The Critical Illness, Accident, and Hospital Indemnity Plans ease the impact of medical costs and everyday bills during recovery. These Aetna protection benefits plans add another layer of financial security when you need it most.
Cash Benefits
Protection benefits plans pay cash benefits when unexpected health events occur.
Portable Policies
All policies are portable, which means you can maintain your coverage even if you leave Sysco.
No Medical Plan Required
You do not have to participate in a Sysco-sponsored medical plan to enroll in coverage.
Critical Illness
Critical Illness coverage pays a lump‑sum cash benefit if you or a covered family member are diagnosed with a covered illness. This can help with out‑of‑pocket costs, lost wages, child care, travel, or everyday household expenses not covered by your medical plan.

Annual Health Screening Benefit
Aetna Critical Illness coverage includes an annual health screening benefit, which pays you $50 annually per covered member for completion of a covered health screening. It’s easy to collect your benefit:
- Log in to the My Aetna Supplemental website or app.
- Click Report New Claim.
- Review, digitally sign, and submit your claim.
Aetna processes your claim and pays the health screening benefit by check or direct deposit once per member, per plan year.
Critical Illness Coverage and Costs*
You can elect coverage for yourself and eligible dependents—your spouse/partner and children up to age 26. To cover dependents, you must also be enrolled. No medical questions or tests are required.
| Who You Can Cover | Coverage Amounts |
|---|---|
Colleague** | $10,000 to $30,000 |
Spouse*** | $10,000, $15,000, or $20,000 |
Child | 25% of colleague coverage |
* The cost of coverage can be found in the online Sysco Benefits Center. If you use tobacco, you will pay higher rates. ** Colleague coverage amounts must be purchased in increments of $5,000. *** Spouse coverage may be elected up to, but not exceeding, the colleague’s coverage amount. | |
Accident Plan

The Accident Plan pays a lump-sum benefit after a covered accident, which you can use for deductibles, accident costs, or other expenses.
Benefit amounts depend on covered expenses and treatments. See the plan details linked below for the full list of covered accidents.
Hospital Indemnity
Hospital Stay Coverage
Hospital Indemnity coverage helps you cover expenses by paying a benefit directly to you.
If you are hospitalized, whether for an accident or illness, the plan pays a benefit of:
- $2,000 for an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) admission
- $1,000 for a non-ICU admission
The plan pays an additional benefit for each day you are in the hospital, up to 30 days:
