FAQs

Enrollment & New Hires

Where can I find information about enrolling?

Information can be found here.

When do my benefits become effective after I am hired or experience a qualifying life event?

Benefits are effective on the first of the month on or after 31 days of employment or becoming newly eligible.

If you experience a qualifying life event (QLE), benefits are effective the date your QLE begins. You have 31 days from the date of your QLE to register a new dependent and 45 days after they’re registered to submit the required documentation. Your dependent will be added to coverage once the documents are verified and approved.

If both parents have separate insurance plans for a child, how do I determine which is the primary insurance plan?

Birthday rules determine the primary plan for a child.‍

  • Birthday rule: The plan of the parent whose birthday falls earliest in the calendar year is primary.
  • Divorced or separated parents: The court decree or custody order determines which plan is primary.

How coordination of benefits works:

  • Primary plan: The primary plan pays first, as if there were no other insurance.
  • Secondary plan: The secondary plan may pay some or all the remaining costs after the primary plan has processed the claim.
How long does the dependent verification process take?

The process typically takes 5 days. Information can be found here.

What happens if I miss the enrollment deadline?

If you miss your enrollment deadline as a new hire, due to a qualifying life event, or during Annual Benefits Enrollment, you cannot make changes to your benefits.
