When would benefits coverage end for me and/or my dependents?
Benefits coverage end dates vary based on the reason you leave Sysco or how your employment ends.
- Dependent Age Out: Covered dependents who turn 26 will have their coverage dropped at the end of the month (at 11:59pm) when they turn 26.
- Qualifying Life Event (QLE): If you experience a QLE that involves ending your benefits (such as getting married), your benefits will end on the date of the QLE.
- Leave of Absence: For colleagues on an unpaid leave of absence, your coverage will end if payment is not received by the due date unless otherwise required by law.
- Retirement: If you are retiring and have met the 10 Years of Service requirement, coverage under the Sysco national plan ends on the last day of the month you retire. If you are retiring and have not met the eligibility requirements for the retiree plan, coverage ends on your last day of employment.
- Death: If you pass away, your coverage ends on your date of death; coverage for enrolled dependents remains in place until the end of the month.
- Leaving Sysco: If you leave Sysco, your benefits will end on your last day of employment at 11:59 p.m.
- Termination: Colleagues who are terminated will lose coverage at 11:59 p.m. on their termination date.
What happens to my FSA if I leave Sysco?
FSAs are "use it or lose it", so if you did not incur services while you were an active colleague, the funds will be forfeited. A colleague has 90 days from their termination date to submit for reimbursement of services incurred while they were an active colleague.
What happens to my HSA if I leave Sysco?
The account is yours to keep. If you switch medical plans or leave Sysco, you will no longer be able to contribute money into the HSA, but you will be able to continue to save, invest, or spend the remaining balance on eligible medical expenses.
