With one exception all of the Sysco-sponsored national medical plans have the same prescription coverage through Aetna/CVS.

Participants in the HSA plan must meet the deductible before the plan pays a portion of your costs.

Remember that using generic drugs when possible is the best way to save money on your prescriptions. Ask your doctor if a generic alternative would work for you. Learn more about Brand-Name Drug Requirements in the FAQs.

You can learn more about what Aetna/CVS offers you on the Aetna/CVS website.

Medications Covered at 100%

Sysco participates in programs through Aetna that help you save more on prescription drugs including:

  • Medication on the Aetna Value Drug List are covered at 100% by the plan from day one–even if you haven’t met your deductible. These include preventive medications, tobacco cessation products, screening preps, certain vaccines and contraceptives for women.
  • Certain specialty drugs on Aetna’s Exclusive Specialty Drug List are covered at $0 copays for those who enroll in PrudentRx. PrudentRx is not for all specialty drugs. There is no cost to join PrudentRx. Members will receive a welcome letter and telephonic outreach from PrudentRx if you qualify. Learn more about PrudentRx here.

How to Fill a Prescription

There are several ways to fill your prescriptions, depending on your needs. Click here to access step-by-step instructions for finding a network pharmacy.

  • For short-term medicine needs, such as antibiotics for strep throat or pain relievers for an injury, filling your prescription at a participating local pharmacy is optimal.
  • For prescription drugs you take regularly to treat ongoing conditions (such as drugs used to treat high-blood pressure or diabetes), the CVS Caremark Mail Service Pharmacy & CVS Retail pharmacy chains offer the best value.
  • For specialty medicines used to treat complex conditions, such as drugs that treat cancer or multiple sclerosis, you must use CVS Specialty, the CVS Caremark specialty pharmacy.
  • If you use a pharmacy that’s not covered in the network, you must pay the entire cost of the prescription and then submit a claim for reimbursement. Click here to access step-by-step instructions for finding a network pharmacy.

Home Delivery

Using CVS Caremark Mail Service Pharmacy™ home delivery service has several advantages. Besides saving you money, your prescriptions are delivered right to your door with free standard shipping. Plus, there are several ways to request a refill: online, on the app, over the phone, or by mail. Learn more about the CVS Caremark Mail Service Pharmacy™.

Home Delivery Required for Maintenance Drugs

Maintenance Choice is a feature of your prescription drug plan. Medications you take regularly (such as diabetes, asthma, or high blood pressure medications) must be filled in 90-day supplies at CVS Pharmacy or through CVS Caremark Mail Service Pharmacy™.

Maintenance Choice gives you the choice of filling prescriptions for medications you take regularly–such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or asthma medications. Either way, the cost is the same. If you fill in 30-day supplies, or at any other pharmacy, your medications won’t be covered, and you’ll have to pay the entire cost. Learn more about Maintenance Choice.

Other Programs

Aetna pharmacy members have access to the GoodRx “Caremark Cost Saver” program which helps to lower pharmacy out-of-pocket drug costs. This program allows you to access GoodRx’s prescription pricing, when available, on generic medications at the pharmacy counter. Cost Saver, powered by GoodRx, benefits include:

  • Providing you with the lowest available prices for many commonly prescribed, non-specialty generic drugs
  • Automatically applying your out-of-pocket costs to your deductible and out-of-pocket maximum
  • Delivering you a seamless experience that avoids wasted time shopping around for the best price

To use Cost Saver, present your member ID card when you pick up your prescriptions. GoodRx will automatically apply the lowest available discount price.

ScriptSync™

If you have more than three eligible prescriptions (30-day medications taken on a regular basis for an ongoing medical condition, excluding controlled substances), ScriptSync™ coordinates your refills to be picked up from your pharmacy once a month at no additional cost. Click here to learn more.

SimpleDose™

Do you take multiple prescriptions? At no additional cost, CVS will presort and package your medications into small, easy-to-open packets in an efficient dispenser box through their SimpleDose™ service.
